Our Vision

The vision of Four Corners School of Outdoor Education is to build a diverse community of people who are committed to conserving the natural and cultural treasures of the Colorado Plateau.

Our History

  • Our Founding:

    Four Corners School of Outdoor Education is founded by current Executive Director, Janet Ross.

  • Southwest Ed-Ventures:

    Southwest Ed-Ventures begins offering educational adventure trips throughout the Colorado Plateau.

  • Bioregional Outdoor Education Project:

    Bioregional Outdoor Education Project provides teachers professional development across the Colorado Plateau (now called the PLATEAU Project).

  • Canyon Country Youth Corps:

    Canyon Country Youth Corps begins supporting job training and conservation efforts in the Four Corners Region.

  • The Beginning of the Center:

    City of Monticello asks Four Corners School of Outdoor Education to lead an economic development project to build a science and nature center.

  • Fundraising Campaign Launched:

    Four Corners School of Outdoor Education launches the fundraising campaign for its new campus, the Canyon Country Discovery Center.

  • Ground-breaking:

    Four Corners School of Outdoor Education breaks ground on the second of three phases for the Canyon Country Discovery Center Campus.

  • Canyon Country Discovery Center Opens:

    In December 2015, stakeholders celebrate the opening of the Canyon Country Discovery Center with campus programs and exhibits.
