We generally design programs for a minimum group size of 8 participants, unless you request a higher minimum in order to lower the per person cost.
Maximum group size is determined by federal land management agency limits (between 6 and 25), minimum impact requirements, and program content.
We prefer groups of no more than 15 on land-based trips, 12 on cultural programs, and 25 on river trips, to maximize the educational experiences we offer.
We can provide transportation to and from the trip site, our basecamp outside Monticello Utah, or from your choice of the following the airports: Salt Lake City, Utah, Cortez, Durango, or Grand Junction, Colorado; Albuquerque or Farmington, New Mexico. If you wish to have us pick you up at any of these locations, we will build that into the trip fee. Or you can rent a van at one of the above locations, and meet our staff at the trip start location.
We will transport group gear and our staff. We will provide all group camping equipment needed (river bags, ammo cans, rafts, lifejackets, kitchen, etc).
Participants need to bring their own personal camping gear (sleeping bags, pads, and tents). They can also rent these items from Southwest Ed-Ventures at an additional cost of $5/tent/ day and $5/bag and sleeping pad/day.
You may choose to begin your program at the rustic FCS basecamp- a restored 1920's homestead in southeastern Utah. Basecamp features a bunkhouse for 10, plus additional beds in other buildings (5 more maximum), a flush toilet, two outhouses, camping area, two showers, a hogan classroom, and a cookhouse.
You may also choose to start your program in one of the above cities and then drive to a primitive basecamp, National Park Service or Bureau Land Management campground, or mobile basecamp.
You may also choose to use motels for your pre-trip and post-trip nights OR for the entire program. You will need to let us know if you prefer comfortable inexpensive lodging or first-class lodging. In some cases there may only be one lodging choice in a given location. We will make all reservations and confirm them with you after receipt of your signed program agreement contract.
