Paradox Valley School was founded as a charter school in 1999 by a start-up committee of parents, grandparents, and community members. Prior to the charter school start-up, the Montrose School District and later, the West End Public School District, operated the Paradox School.

The main part of the facility was built in 1954, shortly after the start of the uranium mining boom, which dramatically increased the population of the area and the need for infrastructure. (This was the same year the highway was paved.) The gymnasium was built sometime in the 60's. In the year 2001, after raising over $300,000 in building grant funds, Paradox Valley School added the southern 2,700 square feet on to the building and thoroughly renovated the existing structure. The following year, the tennis court, playground and landscaping were completed, primarily with a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (lottery funds).

Mission Statement:

Paradox Valley School's mission is to inspire our children to have goals and dreams for their future, and to provide a level of educational excellence that teaches the knowledge, skills, character, and creativity necessary to manifest their greatest potential in life.
