Position Title: Outdoor Educator Intern
Position Type: Temporary/Internship (May – August)
Location: Monticello, Utah
Salary: $1000 per month plus housing
Reports To: Adventure Education Director

Overview:

Four Corners School of Outdoor Education is seeking passionate outdoor educators to contribute to our team this summer. Four Corners School has a thirty-two year history of inspiring participants of all ages to enjoy, appreciate, and learn about the unique history and natural wonders of the Colorado Plateau. This internship will provide rising outdoor educators with the ability to gain experience and skills running the San Juan River, developing environmental educational programming, and outfitting trips for both river and land-based trips. Depending on your educational goals and experience you will also have the opportunity to assist with marketing and social media for our adventure education and travel experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with adventure education trip preparation including rigging, materials prep, food planning
  • Develop new environmental education curriculum in conjunction with internal education staff
  • Assist with post-trip cleanup and debrief
  • Assist with ongoing gear maintenance
  • Develop personal knowledge of Colorado Plateau to enhance ability to deliver quality programing on adventure education trips
  • Assist as needed with on-campus events (astronomy nights, bouldering, etc.) 

Qualifications:

  • Recent college graduate or current student in related field (environmental studies, recreation, outdoor education, natural resources, education etc.)
  • Experience rowing or paddle guide Class III
  • Positive attitude and ability to work through challenges
  • Familiar with Leave No Trace principles
  • Available from May through August
  • Experience working with a variety of participants in outdoor setting
  • Familiar with natural systems on the Colorado Plateau
  • Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder (to be complete by first trip)
  • Preferred 21+ years old
  • Clean driving record
  • Proof of legal status

Benefits:

Interns will be provided a living stipend of $1000/month as well as the option to live on our Monticello campus in shared housing. In addition to pay and housing, interns will have the opportunity to work with our educator staff to develop their skill producing environmental education programming and work with our adventure education staff learning the basics of outfitting multiday backcountry trips.
