Outdoor Educator's Certification Program

Mission:

BOEP1It is the objective of the BOEP Outdoor Education Certification Program (BOEC) to provide a quality certification program with a meaningful framework to those who wish to enhance their skills in teaching about and personal knowledge of the Colorado Plateau Bioregion. Thus BOEC uses existing outdoor and place-based education resources, has participants create their own outdoor resources, and integrates other outdoor education resources. Teachers will also increase their effectiveness as mentors by assisting novice teachers in increasing their skills as outdoor educators.

By completing this certification program, teachers will demonstrate their commitment to outdoor education on, and about, the Colorado Plateau Bioregion.

Goals:

  1. To increase the number of qualified outdoor educators in the Colorado Plateau Bioregion.
  2. To provide a sensible and structured, but flexible format for educators to pursue an Outdoor Education Certification.
  3. To provide a process of support, feedback, and evaluation that will aid educators in receiving their Outdoor Education Certification.
  4. To enhance inter-school mentoring techniques and create positive mentoring programs in the participating schools.
