Requirements

To become a Certified Outdoor Educator, each teacher must complete a Personal Professional Development Plan (PPDP) portfolio of documentation by July 15 of the school year you participated in. When completed you will receive a certificate of completion as a Master Outdoor Education Teacher! The Portfolio must contain the documents that you have completed the Personal Professional Development Plan Requirements (PPDP).

BOEP2Participating Teachers must complete all expectations listed below.

  1. Attend one BOEP Teacher Summer/Fall Institute (5 days).
  2. Implement place-based lessons with your students. Maintain and submit record three times throughout the school year
  3. Arrange, support and participate in 2 BOEP in-service for teachers and staff at your school. Compete and submit form.
  4. Bi-monthly meetings with your Regional Coordinator for mentoring and planning.
  5. Mentor other teachers at your school for an average of one-hour per week. Maintain and submit record three times throughout the school year.
  6. Attend a BOEP Winter Institute (1 day).
  7. Attend the entire annual BOEP conference. March 3-4, 2012.
  8. Complete BOEP Conference follow-up assignment. Due April 1st.
  9. Have your regional coordinator observe you teaching at least 5 place-based lessons.
  10. Submit one article or lesson plan to the BOEP newsletter (for fall, winter, or spring). Due Oct.15, Jan. 15 or March 15, respectively.
  11. Choose one of the following: a) Present (or co-present) a 1.5 hour presentation at the annual BOEP conference. Submit "Conference Presentation Cover Page", with attachments; due March 10th. b) Write a 10 page paper pertaining to BOEP (This could be a unit plan, curriculum integration, or research paper on some BOEP subject). Submitted no later than July 15th. c) Write a 3-5 page feature article for the BOEP newsletter and write/submit 5 original place based lesson plans. Follow newsletter deadlines.
  12. Attend a BOEP River Institute (3 days).
  13. Ensure that all BOEP evaluation forms are turned in, by deadlines provided, and the needs of the project evaluator are met at your school.
